Who we are, how we review tools, and our honest disclosure policy.
Self Employed Tools was built for UK sole traders and the self-employed. After spending hours wading through generic "best AI tools" listicles that listed USD pricing, US tax features, and tools with zero relevance to Making Tax Digital or IR35 — we decided to build something better.
This site covers AI tools that are actually useful to UK sole traders, contractors, and 1-person businesses. We research each tool specifically for UK compliance, verify GBP pricing, and write honest assessments that include genuine drawbacks — not just affiliate-motivated praise.
We update pricing and features regularly. If you spot something out of date, please let us know.
We specifically assess whether each tool supports Making Tax Digital (MTD), VAT returns, Self Assessment, or IR35 considerations. We note when UK features are absent.
We check pricing at time of publication and note whether VAT is included or excluded. We flag USD-priced tools and explain the implications of currency risk for UK users.
Every review includes genuine disadvantages. We explicitly state what a tool is not ideal for. A tool with a good affiliate programme receives no more favourable treatment than one without.
Pricing and features change. We update our tool listings monthly and display a "last verified" date on each entry. If you find outdated information, please submit a correction.
Some links on this website are affiliate links. This means if you click a link and make a purchase or sign up for a paid plan, we may receive a commission from the company — at no additional cost to you.
Affiliate links are clearly marked with rel="nofollow sponsored" in the HTML. Our "Visit Tool" buttons typically use affiliate tracking where a programme exists.
This does not influence our reviews. Tools we have no affiliate relationship with (e.g., Claude Pro, ChatGPT Plus) appear on this site because they're genuinely useful to UK Sole Traders. Tools with higher commissions do not receive more favourable assessments.
This disclosure is made in compliance with the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) CAP Code and the FTC guidelines. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Occasionally, tool providers may pay for a "Sponsored" or "Featured" placement on this site. When this occurs:
